American Studio Bookcase by Gene Caples
Solid oak bookcase with slatted sides and back panel floating over a sled base, designed by Missouri-based craftsman, Gene Caples. A graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and the Cranbrook Academy of Art (where he acquired his Masters of Fine Art in Sculpture), Caples was active from the 1960s until his passing in 2015, having worked in various mediums including bronze and clay. Designed in the 1960s, this bookcase was built in 1999 and bears the carved signature ‘GC 99’ to its rear foot. The lower of the two shelves is adjustable. Robust construction with a decidedly Scandinavian aesthetic.
