About The Series
The six unique forms in this series reference magnolia blossoms at different stages of florescence. Powell experiences the magnolia flower as an enduring symbol of home and these works were created to help bridge the expanse between two distant times and places within the artist’s life, connecting her childhood home in Virginia to her newly chosen home in Minnesota.
These sculptures are amongst the largest Powell has ever created, their scale intending that each command a particular sort of attention within the living environment, effecting a constant and welcome reminder of the past.
The Magnolia Series is meant to awaken one’s memories of home while fostering the potential for future nostalgia for the current moment.
